Finding Your Purpose

How do you know when to let go if something isn’t serving you ?

For as long as I can remember, the job you do for a living has defined you. You spend 40+ hours a week, 160 hours a month, and 8,000 hours a year at your job. That’s a significant amount of time, so it’s safe to say that choosing the right profession is crucial.

I often ponder what my life would be like if I had attended college immediately after high school.

Choose wrong, and you’ll be miserable; choose right, and you’ll never work a day in your life.

College for some provides the skills and knowledge necessary to advance in life.

But, even when you choose a path, you may change your mind several times. Given the information available, current circumstances, you may find yourself on many paths.

But, the path and decisions do not stop there.

STAGES

At different points in life:

– Becoming a father

– experiencing a mid-life crisis,

– going through a spiritual journey

– or questioning your existence

You may find yourself at a crossroads.

Over the past 38 years, I have pursued many things in the pursuit of MONEY OR FREEDOM, ( they are one and the same ).

WHEN YOU LACK MONEY YOU LACK FREEDOM.

I remember being broke it was horrible not having the money to take my family on vacations or buy what we needed.

If I were to give you a million dollars at this point right now in your life what would you do with it?

Start a business take a vacation quit your job.

Money gives you options and options are true freedom.

If your’e broke or have a lack of money you have no options.

PATHS

How can you determine the right path to take in life?

Factors that contribute to finding happiness and purpose.

It is crucial to understand who you are. You must be honest about your strengths, weaknesses, interests, and what motivates you.

These are difficult questions that need introspection.

1. I recommend taking the 16personalities test. It helped me identify key aspects of my personality. I am an INTJ (Architect or Strategist), which means I am highly analytical, creative, and logical.

This does not limit me or put me in a bubble. Instead, it helps me recognize things that do not serve my purpose and navigate through them.

2. I dove into Astrology, and used the Natal Chart to gain some more perspective. It can provide valuable insight into one’s true self, I’m an Aries.

I have characteristics such as:bravery, artistic talent, confidence, passion, and independence. This allowed me to gain a deeper, more spiritual understanding of myself.

3. I asked those closest to me, to provide their thoughts on my strengths and potential.

The Japanese say that we all have three faces, which in astrology are referred to as the Big 3: Sun, Ascendant, and Moon.

It is important to understand the correlation between these two Perspectives.

-How they shape the world around us.

-How we see ourselves.

-How others see us.

It can be difficult to let go of the past versions of ourselves. To reconcile it with our current self-perception.

But, it is necessary to do so to achieve true substance in our lives. As time passes, it can become increasingly challenging to be true to ourselves due to fear of judgment.

How others perceive us can greatly impact how we define ourselves.

PERCEPTION

Have you ever heard someone say, “He’s going through a midlife crisis”?

I heard this when I wanted to become a Master Barber. It surprised my wife, friends, and everyone around me. They couldn’t see it because I had never shown that side of myself before.

I was in my early thirties, which is not considered mid-life, but close enough.

For as long as anyone could remember, I was always known as the fit guy.

I came from a background of : military, computer technology, and fitness. All solid, non-artistic, structured/rigid career paths.

So becoming a barber is often associated with being a free spirit, rather than a structured profession.

Don’t let fear dictate the story of your life.

FEAR

Fear today is not real, at least not life or death. Fear is meant to protect us from danger. But switching careers is nothing to fear. Unless it involves law enforcement, military, or stunt work.

In “The 50th Law of Power” by Robert E. Green, fear is described as the oldest and strongest emotion known to man. With its purpose to protect us from imminent threats of death, such as wars, plagues, and natural disasters.

Yet, we now have more control over our environment, so fear is not the same as it once was. Some might even argue that it is non-existent.

But, of course, everyone is different.

At the end of the day, we all want to be happy. Having a purpose is crucial to achieving that happiness.

But, when our purpose changes. It evolves into new and more meaningful ideas and values. Without a purpose, it can be difficult to find happiness or feel fulfilled.

Doing something that aligns with our core values will always reign supreme in our hearts.

I recently got into real estate with my wife. We always dreamed of buying, selling, and investing in real estate to help families.

Additionally, I have been a personal trainer and life coach for years. I enjoy helping people get in shape and walk around with confidence.

I understand that I enjoy solving problems that come in all shapes and forms.

VALUES

To begin making changes in your life, it’s important to start getting to know yourself. Letting go of any negative self-beliefs.

“Let Go and Let God” is a quote you may have heard before.

It’s a simple reminder that anxiety and fear are not serving you or your purpose. You are never too old to grow and change.

The moment you stop growing, evolving, and maturing is the day you begin to stop living and start dying. It’s always the right time to make a change, never the wrong time.

When it’s time to make a change, you must envision yourself as the next version of yourself. Let go of the old ways and step into new ones.

My question to myself, and now to you after reading this.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN IT’S TIME TO CHANGE PROFESSIONS OR LET GO OF THINGS THAT ARE NO LONGER SERVING YOU?

Choosing the right profession depends on several factors.

  • Whats Your personality ?

  • What was your upbringing like ?

  • Wats Your Driving Force? ( Money Passion)

These are excellent questions that you must ask yourself to get to the bottom of things. It’s an ongoing life lesson.

I’ve gone through many stages in life; striving for survival, success, money, passion, purpose, and even sheer boredom.

Each of these has been a driving force for me, but they all have their shelf life.

What if the answer has been sitting right in front of you all this time?

My revelation came when I recognized a pattern in myself.

I enjoy problem-solving, making plans, and researching.

I can apply these skills to almost anything.

However, it took me a while to get to this point, and I had to take many paths to discover it.
