Every day, life's pace threatens to pull us away from our core mission. As FATHERS OF CREATION (men, fathers, educators, and mentors). We carry the responsibility of guiding the next generation and passing the torch.

Through the hurricane of distractions, life throws our way.

Unlocking More Focus

Diving in the pages of Dan Koe's The Art of Focus. A simple truth resonates: our attention is as limited as a supercomputer's RAM. Faced with the grand task of nurturing our children's minds with wisdom and curiosity.

How do we ensure our lessons truly resonate?

Get Your Act Together: Manage Your Time, Stick to What Matters

In the whirlwind of daily responsibilities and distractions, living intentionally becomes our anchor. Not managing our time responsibly, but aligning our actions with our deepest values. Here's how you can make every moment count and ensure your life reflects what matters to you:

  • Assess and Rank: Regularly test your activities and commitments.

Ask yourself: Do they align with my core values? Focus on tasks that nurture your family, personal growth, and the goals most important to you.

  • Cut Distractions: Identify what pulls you away from meaningful interactions and tasks. Be ruthless in minimizing these distractions to free up space in what enriches your life.

  • Set Clear Intentions: Start each day with a clear intention or goal aligned with your core values. Focus will guide your actions and help you make decisions. Contributing to your long-term vision.

  • Create Value-Aligned Systems: Develop routines and systems that support your priorities. Family walks, family study hours, or personal time for reflection and growth. These systems should reflect and reinforce your core values.

  • Be Present: In every task or interaction, ask yourself: Am I here? Being present not only improves the quality of your engagements. It ensures you're living in alignment with your intentions.

Action Items for Sticking to What Matters:

  • Conduct a weekly review of how you've spent your time. Focusing on areas for alignment with your values.

  • Install one change that brings you closer to living by your core values.

  • Share your experience with living intentionally with your family or mentees. Creating a culture of mindfulness and purpose.

By combining time management with a focus on core values. You pave the way for a life lived intentionally. —Every action and moment is infused with purpose and meaning.

Lead by Example

The mundane task of fixing a running toilet transformed into a vital life lesson for my sons. Down the aisles of Home Depot, and huddled around a toilet at home a "Dad session" unfolded.

It wasn’t about problem-solving but about resilience, and embracing trial and error. An experience, far beyond plumbing. A live demonstration showed us that life's true rewards lie in the journey and our presence within it.

Stop Being Scared: Learn New Stuff All Your Life

A moment that stands out in my journey as a father. Filled with frustration and vulnerability. The task at hand was helping my kids with their math homework. Something I've always prided myself on being quite good at.

But, the introduction of Common Core math threw a wrench into what I expected to be a simple task. This new method, while cool in theory. Was daunting and confusing for someone not taught that way. ME!

Helping my kids with Common Core math was a humbling experience.

Teaching the importance of persistence and openness to learning. A vulnerability moving us forward.

Put Yourself First: Stop Ignoring Your Needs for Your Roles

Self-care extends beyond the occasional moment of quiet or relaxation. —It's about engaging with life in a way that builds us completely. I build self-care through physically challenging routines shared with my kids."

Our "10:45 challenge" is a daily ritual that not only keeps us in shape but also strengthens our bond. Each day, when they return from school and before bed, we perform one set of exercises together.

With the number of reps matching their age.

Whether it's :

  • pull-ups,

  • squats

  • leg tucks,

A powerful reminder to practice the importance of maintaining our physical health. As a foundation for mental and emotional well-being.

Make Self-Care Part of Your Mission

This week, I encourage you to find your version of the "10:45 challenge."

It doesn't have to be about physical exercise. Find something that revitalizes you and, if possible, involve your family. It could be a shared hobby, a quiet walk, or a dedicated time for reading or meditation. The key is to make self-care a consistent part of your routine. One that supports your ability to lead, teach, and inspire by example.

Self-care is vital for our well-being. Our "10:45 challenge" is a daily ritual that keeps us in shape and strengthens our bond. Reminding us of the importance of maintaining our physical health.
